Although smaller than SeaStar, MorningStar is still
spacious (about 700 sq feet) , with a bedroom, small bathroom (with toilet and
washbasin), living area, dining area and kitchen area. However, it has standard
height ceilings, and no indoor shower. The outdoor shower (with hot and cold
water) is located on the rear covered patio, in a large curtainable area that
also has a washbasin. The shower area is draped in bougainvillea, and has
rapidly become a favorite with both guests and hummingbirds (attracted by the
feeders on the porch). The living area has french doors that overlook the ocean,
and the ocean can be seen through all but one of the 5 other windows. The
kitchen is fully equipped, with a full stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee
maker, espresso machine and toaster (but these cannot all be operated at once!).
The kitchen cabinets are faced in driftwood with unusual driftwood handles. The
floor is cement painted forest green. The bedroom has a comfortable queensize
bed, and, in summer, airconditioning. The house is the closest to the ocean (50
feet) of the 3 Calypso houses, and the sound of the waves cannot be avoided (who
would want to?). Because we just opened MorningStar, which is somewhat more
basic than the other 2 houses, we are offering an extraordinarily low rate of
$490 per week year round. We anticipate that MorningStar will rapidly become
very popular, and will then raise our rates (and, if guests so vote, enclose the
shower area).
Details ( see above pictures).
1. This facade, 37 feet long, faces the Atlantic Ocean.
The left window is in the dining area. The right french doors open to the living
room; from the living room there is a magnificent ocean view (see pictures X and
Y below).
2. A wicker sofa in the living room has comfortable
cushions and an interesting African weaving. The window looks west to a pretty
palm grove (see picture X below). The ledge is decorated with hibiscus flowers
for guests. Guests should discard spent blossoms.
3. The other sofa (which open to a spare bed) has cushions
matching the curtains. The side table is painted Calypso blue, and carries a
couple of our big collection of coffee table books on tropical themes, as well
as more blossoms. The curtain on the left conceals a storage area. The colorful
rug sits on the concrete floor painted forest green.
4. This more general view of the living room shows in
addition the CD rack (on the right) which has a large selection of classical
CDs, and the bookcase on the right (with a fan) , viewed through the fronds of a
Chrysalidocarpus lutescens house plant.
5. Stepping further back, this image shows the living area
from the dining area, separated from a wooden desk painted calypso blue, which
carries another fan and the CD player. On the right is a Donna Allen oil
painting of the beach at Popponi, concealing the circuit breaker box (which may
need to be reset if you operate too many kitchen gadgets at once). On the left
is a chest of drawers for clothes (the bedroom is deliberately kept sparsely
furnished), and the dining table.
6. The kitchen cabinets are faced with driftwood from our
beach, with striking driftwood handles. On the counter, from the left: espresso/capuccino
machine, coffee maker, toaster, toaster oven. On the shelf, the microwave. Below
the counter, the fridge. If you bring frozen foods, or need a large ice supply,
use the chest freezer in the WoodStar shed (which also has a washing machine for
guests' use).
